How much do you know about the camping etiquette of RV driving?

3 Mins read

Whether you want to start a RV driving road trip in Canada all over again, or just take an RV driving road trip around the United States, the best thing about RV travel is that you have your own means of transportation and your own accommodations in place.

After a tiring day exploring this beautiful world, the RV becomes your little home and the rest of the campground becomes your neighbor.

While this is a great feeling, it’s important to remember that you have some responsibilities to your neighbors who are also camping nearby.

RV driving, campground etiquette is very important, you know, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. If this is your first RV driving trip, it’s a good idea to take a refresher course on RV driving etiquette, and RV Nation has summarized some tips here to help you achieve RV good neighbor status

Your place, my place

When camping in the same campground as others, respect and privacy are key. Thankfully, renting an RV for your trip means you can have excellent privacy without being bothered too much by others. When you arrive at a campground during an RV drive, leave plenty of space between other people and yourself, especially if you are camping in an area that is not designated for parking. When leaving the RV campground each time, you will not interfere with others.

Recreation

If you’re a music lover, there’s no better way to get into the camping spirit than with a short Come On Over Here (popular song). Make sure the campground atmosphere is suitable for quiet music before you disturb others. Know the ages of your camp buddies; small children may go to bed earlier than you and there may be a noise curfew in place. Make sure the music has been turned off when it gets late; you and your camping neighbors need each other to get quality sleep!

Game Time

Games like cricket and ring toss can be fun to while away the afternoon. It’s the best way to get to know your neighbors, let the kids run around and play with other kids their age. However, make sure you check your surroundings as you set up your game. Make sure you are not too close to other people’s campsites and that the ball does not hit on top of tents and RVs. No one wants the cricket ball to go through their RV windows.

Camping Friendly

Whether you’re staying for a night or stopping for a week, you’re likely to encounter some camping neighbors. When you place your campsite, make sure you are very gracious to everyone around you. Don’t be afraid to invite people over to get drunk or play card games if you’re in a bad mood. Travelers from all over the world, from Canada to the United States, from Australia to New Zealand, in different countries, enjoy RV driving tours. You’re bound to meet very interesting people along the way. Again, if you can tell them that you need some space, then let them keep theirs for themselves too

Keep the ground clean for the next camper

Having an RV is the perfect way to explore the world, and being able to cook your own food is obviously a nice advantage. Make sure you have collected and packed your trash for the day in bags. Use the park’s dumpsters, and don’t worry if you don’t have one. Throw your trash in the next dumpster you see during your trip. Keeping your campsite clean for the RV campers behind you is not only considerate and friendly, it’s also environmentally friendly!

Share the campground

Remember, you are sharing the campsite with others. Cleaning up after eating and leaving the facilities in a clean and tidy state is the best way to show your camper neighbors that you are friendly. Do the same with RV campground amenities because, well, other people need to use them too. Be efficient and keep an eye out while others are waiting for you to use the equipment. When leaving the campground, make sure you double check that you haven’t left anything behind. You might be surprised how many pairs of flip-flops you leave behind at an RV campground!

Basic manners

RVing overnight in a campground is a lot of fun, and one you’re sure to look back on from time to time years from now. Wherever you are in the world, always learn to understand others, as the saying goes, long live understanding, and be tolerant because, as you know, others are doing the same thing.
