Luhrmann Revives Elvis, but Will the Film Make Its Way to Television?

2 Mins read

The Elvis has been hailed as the best-selling movie of this summer. Is there a chance it’ll be on Netflix in the near future?

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis has been a hit with Elvis lovers and film aficionados. Austin Butler portrayal is so convincing, it’s hard to imagine that conspiracy theorists were right when they claimed Elvis was alive. Die-hard Presley fans didn’t believe that he had died after his death in 1977. Elvis Sighting Society reported on his location, saying that he lived with aliens.

This film shows a young Elvis on his way to fame. The film shows him at a point in his career when he was still finding his feet. It is, as with everything Luhrmann does, a cinematic drama with gorgeous cinematography and sweeping landscapes. Presley was a completely different person in his later years. It seems that his youthful self has been preserved as if in aspic. Elvis is portrayed by Elvis impersonators all over the world, but if you visit Vegas today you will be married to a young Elvis on a highway. Elvis Lives, a video slot by WMS Gaming, can also be found in online casinos.

Luhrmann’s film is about the relationship between Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker, his manager. Tom Hanks’ Parker narrates the story. This story spans twenty years of the complex relationship between two men. Parker controlled 100% and had 50% of profits during that period. Parker manipulates Elvis to repay his gambling debts as Elvis becomes famous. Parker is seen infiltrating Presley’s trusted inner circle and claiming that “without me there would not be Elvis Presley.” Hanks does not play a role which will make him popular; instead, he portrays a wheeler-dealer, who must control his puppet.

Austin Butler is the star of Luhrmann’s biopic. Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort and Austin Butler were all competing for the iconic role. He was selected over singers and had to master the voice and singing style that made Elvis famous. Butler was a perfect match for Presley because of his southern drawl, good looks and natural look. However, Luhrmann did not want a karaoke version. Butler instead had to expand his vocal range in order to be able to play the role.

He worked for a year with a voice coach to get his voice as close to The King’s as possible. Butler’s vocals are heard throughout the film. Elvis’s tone is blended in to later scenes as the character gets older.

Butler has appeared before in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood but his new film brings him to a brand-new audience. It is said that Butler felt a sense of obligation to Elvis and his family to make the film as authentic as possible.

Many fans wonder when the movie will be available to stream. Netflix is not likely to release it anytime soon.

Warner Brothers has announced that it will reduce the theatrical window for all of its films. It means that films like Elvis are only shown in cinemas for 45-days before being streamed on HBO Max. It has been confirmed that the movie will now be available for rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video. On September 13, , the movie was released in 4K Blu-ray and DVD.
