Faerber and Greenwoods area 510 is an example of a trend that’s growing in independent comics. The final comic acts as a backdoor pilot to a film or television series. In 1996, Will Smith and Charlize theron starred in a big-budget motion picture called “In an alternate universe”.
Area 510is an exciting, fun and witty thrill ride that is fast-paced. It’s also tightly written with beautiful illustrations.
Colton Ward, a rookie police officer, finds himself in the midst of an alien invasion on the streets of Oakland, California.
Ward, despite a group murderous aliens turning the world on its head, is determined to take his collar Lucinda to the precinct in the city that has been torn apart by war.
In an action-packed caper, the pair will have to put aside their differences in a film that’s on the same level as gritty police films such as 16 Blocks and Assault on Precinct 13, with a generous dusting of War of the Worldand Cloverfield.
The short, easy read Clocking In at Zone 510 has a lot of crazy action and is always a good time.
Ward would be a completely unbelievable character in the real world. Ward’s heroic trope is perfect for an action novel. I know few people who would bring in a small-time thief when aliens invaded. But Ward has a purpose, and that makes him a hero. Ward, despite facing impossibilities in his mission to bring Lucinda back for the failed heist, is committed to fulfilling this duty. Lucinda, on the other hand, is incredulous at Ward’s determination to get her, despite everything falling apart. This oil-and-water pairing, like any other buddy cop movie, is fun as they fight off aliens and gangbangers in a ravaged Oakland.
Greenwood captures the faces and motions in a filmic manner. For example, Sullivan’s gunfight with a gang of thieves is brilliant.
Area 510 is a great option for those who want to enjoy a quick read.
