Unveiling the Depth: A Review of “Linoleum”

1 Mins read

It’s difficult to talk coherently about LINOLEUM if you aren’t a little scattered. The end of the movie makes the plot very obvious, but the journey to that point is long and disjointed.

It’s sad. It’s important that the reveal is shocking, otherwise you will disappoint everyone.

The latter is what I am referring to.

Someone I know still believes that Gabriel Byrne played Keyser in The Usual Suspects. The Usual Suspectsis a great example of an gimmick film.

Please, can we get Rhea to star in every movie? She is so talented. She is so talented. In Better Call Saul, she is magical. She brings her powerful presence to an underwritten and limited role in .

In Lioleum she is not present enough on screen to give the story cohesion.

Jim Gaffigan is a great actor. In Linoleum, he plays two roles.

In one of his roles, he plays a crazy but lovable Professor type (Cameron) who brings science to children in an educational program. As Kent, we see a more polished, successful, and cleaner version of the same character.

Kent has a nasty personality that he regularly shows to his son.

Gabriel Rush is Kent’s child, Marc. Rush has a prolific career. It is impressive to have 33 acting credits before the age of 25, but it’s not surprising. Rush’s sincerity and heart is evident as he becomes friends with Cameron’s young daughter Nora. Katelyn NACON, Walking Dead alumni plays Nora with aplomb and effectiveness despite the role under-emphasizing her talent.

This leads us to the Linoleum problem. It looks like it’s a comedy in the trailer, but that is not true.

It touches upon some very heavy subjects, but does not delve into them. The topic is not explained in the movie until it’s near the end. Writing is weak, gimmicky, and unsatisfying. They outsing the song and perform well despite Colin West’s confusion. The Linoleum film is not a great one, but it’s still pretty good.

Chad Simpson produced the film.
Dennis Masel and Chadd Hardbold
Directed and Written by Colin West
Starring Jim Gaffigan, Rhea Seehorn,
Katelyn Nacon, Gabriel Rush,
Elisabeth Henry, Amy Hargreaves,
Roger Hendricks Simon, West Duchovny,
