IDW Publishing Reveals the ‘Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition’ Announcement

IDW will be celebrating the dynamic artwork and storytelling by industry icon Todd McFarlane Addition of Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition to its multiple Eisner Award–winning line. Spider-Man’s most acclaimed run has never been more accessible!

Todd McFarlane’s beautiful work on Spider-Man Nothing less than groundbreaking. His intense version of the web-slinging wallcrawler took the character to new heights, instilling in the character a new sense of energy and vitality—first in The Amazing Spider-ManMcFarlane wrote the story and McFarlane did the art for a spinoff series. The impact that his dynamic artwork has had on the comics industry—on his legions of fans and the artists who have been inspired by and have emulated him—is truly immeasurable.

“The impact of McFarlane on the comics industry is like a lightning bolt striking the art form. His work continues to resonate with fans around the world to this day,” says Scott Dunbier. Dunbier is IDW’s director of special projects and the award-winning creator of the Artist’s Edition Format.

This Artist’s Edition includes nearly 100 pages of interior artwork selected from 24 issues. The Amazing Spider-Man Run, he’s only 60 pages away from his record-breaking run Spider-Man 25 covers of titles including Marvel Age, Marvel Tales, The Amazing Spider-Man, and even more.

The Artist’s Edition includes classic villains like the Green Goblin (also co-created by McFarlane), the Hobgoblin (also created by McFarlane), the Vulture (also created by McFarlane), Morbius and the Lizard, as well as the Hulk and Wolverine. Plus, one of the most infamous characters introduced in that era—the villainous Venom, co-created by McFarlane—takes the spotlight in a number of pages, including his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 299!

As with all Artist’s Editions, each gorgeous plate will be reproduced from meticulous scans of the original art, with all the distinctive creative nuances that make original art unique—a perfect representation of the work in its original form.
